Natural disasters in Japan

The Embassy of Ghana in Tokyo wishes to inform all Ghanaians visiting and living in Japan to take note of this important information regarding natural disasters in Japan.

Types of Natural Disasters

• Earthquake
• Tsunami
• Flood
• Typhoon.

PREPARATIONS BEFORE A DISASTER

How to prepare before a disaster?

For Ghanaians visiting or living in Japan, you are advised to download the NHK world app(English version) to receive alerts whenever there is a natural disaster.

You can also download the Disaster Preparedness Tokyo App to guide you in preparing for a natural disaster.

PREPARATIONS

To be adequately prepared you will need the following;

• At least a two weeks supply of drinking water (4 liters per person per day)
• A month supply of emergency food items and check their expiry dates regularly.
• Battery operated radio
• Batteries for flashlights, flashlights, can opener, raincoat, blankets. etc.
• Essential medical supplies
• First aid kit with instructions in your preferred language.
• Evacuation routes from home to work, work to home, your kid’s schools and places you visit frequently.
• Emergency kits which contain important documents like passports, zairyu card, health
insurance, emergency contact numbers.
• Secure furniture, cabinets and large electronics to prevent them from falling during
natural disasters like an earthquake.
• Take note of these emergency numbers Police 110, Fire Department and Ambulance 119.
