GHANA AND JAPAN FORMALIZE PARTNERSHIP ON HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH JDS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
On Monday, 2nd June 2025, facilitated by the Embassy of Ghana in Japan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana and the Embassy of Japan in Accra officially signed an Exchange of Notes for the Japanese Grant Aid under the “Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)” initiative. The grant, amounting to 402 million Japanese Yen, represents a significant milestone in the growing partnership between the two countries.
Representing Ghana, Ambassador Ramses Joseph Cleland, Chief Director of the Ministry, signed the agreement, while His Excellency Mr. Yoshimoto Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, signed on behalf of the Japanese government.
Ambassador Cleland described the JDS program as a vital tool for empowering Ghana’s emerging professionals and advancing national development. Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, he expressed deep appreciation to the Government of Japan for its unwavering partnership and commitment to Ghana’s growth through human capital investment.
Ambassador Hiroshi, in his remarks, acknowledged the strong cooperation between Ghana and Japan and reaffirmed his country’s dedication to supporting education and skill-building in Ghana. He highlighted the success of the JDS initiative since its introduction in 2012 and looked forward to even greater achievements in the years ahead.
