The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Tokyo participated in a Country Study Meeting on Ghana organized by the African Society of Japan at the International House of Japan on 17th March 2026. The meeting brought together representatives from Japanese institutions, private sector entities, and other stakeholders interested in exploring investment opportunities in Ghana.
The Embassy delegation was led by the Deputy Ambassador, Mr. Francis Thalamus Doe, and included Mr. Isaac Yankson, Minister-Counsellor (Trade and Investment), and Mr. Christopher E.K. Gaba, Minister-Counsellor (Diaspora, Education and Culture).
The engagement formed part of ongoing post-TICAD efforts to deepen Ghana–Japan economic cooperation and promote Ghana as a preferred investment destination in West Africa.
In a detailed presentation, Mr. Yankson highlighted Ghana’s economic profile and key investment opportunities across sectors, including oil and gas, mining, agriculture, healthcare, construction, education, finance, and pharmaceuticals. He underscored Ghana’s position as Africa’s leading gold producer, its expanding oil and gas industry, and its role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, providing access to a market of over 1.4 billion people.
He also emphasized Ghana’s favourable investment climate, supported by bilateral investment treaties, double taxation agreements, political stability, and a youthful and dynamic workforce.
The Deputy Ambassador and Embassy officials further highlighted the Ghana Free Zones Programme as a strategic framework for attracting foreign direct investment, offering incentives such as tax exemptions and streamlined regulatory processes.
The interactive session that followed allowed participants to engage on key issues, including Ghana’s macroeconomic outlook, industrial policy, environmental concerns related to illegal mining, and the impact of global commodity prices. The Embassy provided clarifications on ongoing reforms and government measures aimed at ensuring economic stability and sustainable development.
The Embassy expressed appreciation to the African Society of Japan for organizing the meeting and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Japanese investors and strengthening partnerships that contribute to Ghana’s economic growth and industrial development.
