Dec 31-2025
The Ghana Mission in Tokyo is proud to highlight the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 30, 2025, between Ghana’s Ministry of Education and Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in education.
Led by Ghana’s Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, the agreement focuses on inclusive, high-quality education, with a strong emphasis on digital skills, teacher training, green competencies, and sustainable development. The collaboration supports Ghana’s broader education reform efforts and aligns with the national Education Strategic Plan (ESP 2018–2030).
During his working visit to Japan from July 27 to August 2, 2025, Hon. Iddrisu engaged with key Japanese institutions, including the National Institute of Technology (KOSEN) and the National Institute of Special Needs Education (NISE), to explore practical, community-based, and inclusive learning models. He acknowledged Japan’s global leadership in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), including initiatives such as the UNESCO ESD Centre in Okayama and international ESD forums.
The MoU also reinforces ongoing support through Japanese initiatives such as JICA’s education programs, the Project for Improving the Quality of Primary Education through Teacher Development, and the Sakura Science Exchange Programme—highlighting a shared commitment to youth development and sustainable learning ecosystems.
The Mission commends this strategic collaboration and reaffirms its readiness to support implementation efforts, deepen academic exchange, and promote innovation in Ghana’s education sector through partnerships with Japan.
