MUSICAL CONCERT JOINTLY HOSTED BY THE EMBASSIES OF GHANA AND CUBA TOKYO, 26TH MAY, 2023
The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Tokyo, Japan, successfully collaborated with the Embassy of Cuba in Tokyo to jointly organize a musical concert at the City Hall of Minato, a suburb of Tokyo, on Friday, 26th May, 2023. The co-hosting of the concert, which followed the Embassy’s successful organization of the similar event in May 2022, was aimed at promoting Ghanaian traditional music while projecting the impact of African Rhythms on Cuban and in general, Caribbean genre of music in the host country. The event was also promoted as part of activities to commemorate 60th Anniversary of Africa Day in Japan, which was marked on 25th May, 2023.
The concert was held under the theme “Accra to Havana: A Journey of Rhythms,” with the Performing Artists from Hewale Sounds, a Ghanaian musical troupe, under the leadership of Mr. Dela Botri, while the Cuban side was led by Mr. Hector Ferran, a renowned Cuban Artist resident in Japan, in a fully packed 400 capacity auditorium. The event was impressively attended by the Diplomatic Corps, especially those from the Africa and South American countries, officials from various host State agencies, including the Foreign Ministry, The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Others were from the city of Minato, representatives of Japanese companies, business entities and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) with presence in Ghana, a cross-section of the Ghanaian and Cuban communities, including Entrepreneurs and students, as well as ordinary Japanese citizens.
