The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) and the Chief of Mission of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Ghana Office, Ms. Momoko Suzuki, held discussions on projects JICA is embarking on in Ghana. During a meeting, which was held on Wednesday, 26th March, 2025, between Ms. Momoko Suzuki and Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ms. Suzuki stated that JICA is undertaking projects in areas such as Infrastructural Development, Agriculture, Trade and Education. Ms. Suzuki further added that, JICA hopes to support Ghana on several other projects, such as disaster management, combating the effects of soil erosion, research into medication to combat Schistosomiasis also known as Bilharzia, and an education project aimed at improving learning outcomes. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) thanked the Japanese Government for its contribution to Ghana’s development through JICA. He elaborated on projects in infrastructure development especially in the Northern and Ashanti Regions. This includes the construction of a bridge that connects the Greater Accra Region to the Volta and Eastern Regions of Ghana. He also mentioned the Agricultural Projects, especially the Rice Farming project and the recent agreement signed on development of power infrastructure in the Northern Region. On education, the Minister applauded JICA for the scholarships it offers to Ghanaians and urged them to implement projects that develop the soft skills of children alongside the Science and Math that they were already supporting. The meeting ended with both sides committing to enhancing relations, with JICA pledging to continue to support Ghana with infrastructure development.
